AMA Tours

Join us for a ride to remember!

Frank CovucciA message from Frank Covucci, AMA Director of Road Riding and Special Events:

Thanks for your interest in AMA Tours. If you are among the many friends who have accompanied us on previous AMA Tours, welcome back! If this is your first visit, welcome!

We began AMA Tours several years ago, after a series of articles in American Motorcyclist magazine about touring drew a large response from readers wanting more information about duplicating those tours. We decided to use the knowledge we've gained over the years to put together a few select tours to the best motorcycling destinations in North America.

AMA Tours offer AMA members the opportunity to experience these great destinations without having to worry about finding accommodations and seeking out the best sights and most enjoyable roads to ride. We do the homework. You just enjoy the ride.

And what do our past participants think of our tours? Well, we have many people who have returned to take our tours three, four and five times. We’d be happy to put you in touch with past participants for references.

By the way, all proceeds from the tours go to the American Motorcyclist Association to help protect your right to ride.

Again, thanks for your interest. Our tours fill quickly, so it’s never too early to book with us. Download a reservation form (PDF, 32k) and mail it in, or call us at (800) AMA-JOIN, ext. 1190, to reserve your spot.

We hope you will join us for the trip of a lifetime!

AMA ToursAdditional information about our tours

Travel Information
The tour price also includes daily maps and routing, a complete package of highway maps and travel guides, as well as a series of newsletters, that will provide you with a variety of information on what and how to pack, sights to be see en route, etc.

Our price does not include bike rental, bike shipping, or any airfare. If you choose to fly one or both ways to join the tour, you should not purchase nonrefundable airline tickets before contacting us in the unlikely event the tour is canceled on the final payment date for lack of participation.

Bike Shipping
The AMA works with Federal Companies. Federal uses Allied Van Lines for their shipments. Federal offers a discount on motorcycle shipping to AMA members.

To ship your motorcycle you must note:

  • Allow between one and two weeks for shipping.
  • Deliver your bike to a designated shipping warehouse in your town or nearby community. Federal will pick up at your residence, but for an additional charge (approximately $60-$70).

Your bike can be shipped to a variety of locations. It largely depends on your needs and airport arrival location.

Bikes are shipped on special pallets and do not require crating.

You can ship your own bike one-way or round-trip, depending on your needs. You can pack hard saddlebags and trunks ahead of time and ship them with the bike if you prefer, or you can carry luggage with you.

Prices for shipping will vary with exact shipping locations. For actual quotes, please contact: Federal Moving and Storage, attention Jackie Taylor (a fellow motorcyclist, we might add), telephone (800) 747-4100. Tell her your AMA number and receive a discount in your shipping fees.

Once you have booked your tour, you should immediately contact Federal (or the shipper of your choice) to make your reservations.

NOTE: AMA Tours and Federal have no direct affiliation. If you choose to utilize their services, your contract will be with their company and not AMA Tours. AMA Tours assumes no responsibility for shipping services with this tour.

Additional Expenses
Airfare, gasoline, oil, motorcycle rentals or shipping, lunches, dinners as noted, beverages, laundry, souvenirs and film.

Luggage
You will need to carry all of your luggage with you on your bike, just as you do when you normally go touring. We will not employ a luggage van on this tour, as the leader(s) will be traveling on motorcycles also.

Deposits and Final Payment
Deposits will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and we do maintain a standby list for cancellations if the tours sell out, which often happens. A deposit of $250 per person is required, while the balance is due in full when we send you the final invoice, several weeks before the tour begins.

Checks, Visa, American Express, MasterCard or Discover cards are accepted.
