The results are in at last! 2007 was a banner year for AMA Grand Tours, as the AMA Riding Department rolled out the largest selection ever of these season-long destination scavenger hunts.
Riders visited more than 2,000 locations across the United States in four individual Grand Tours. Those who earned at least 25 points received a chance to win prizes in the series sweepstakes. Riders who earned 50 points in one or more tours earned an extra entry in the sweepstakes.
Winners received prizes from TomTom, Chatterbox Communications Systems, CTEK, Scorpion Helmets, Chase Harper, and Baxley Companies. BikeBandit.com and EagleRider, official AMA partners, also contributed valuable prize packages. In all, winners received nearly $10,000 in valuable riding gear and accessories.
Four riders went further than all the other Grand Tour participants. The top points earners were:
- BikeBandit.com AMA Members’ Choice Roads Grand Tour
Kurt Brandt, 421 points - TomTom RIDER GPS Grand Tour
Sean Neckel, 122 points - AMA Classic "I’ve Been Everywhere" Grand Tour
John Frick, 266 points, shown right receiving his prizes from me - KOAst 2 KOAst with the AMA
Joe Gouldman Jr., 308 points
Gouldman, an AMA Charter Life member, rode more than 30,000 miles to earn not
only the most points in the KOA tour, but also earned the most points
overall with a combined 456 points in both the KOA and I’ve Been
Everywhere tours.
Sean Neckel's photo of his "scorched yellow" Triumph in front of a red building caught our eye and won the award for our favorite Grand Tour photo. Mark Rose submitted an entire package about his KOA tour that won our award for best package of photos and story.
