Dave Mungenast, Sr., 1934-2006

The Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum and the American Motorcyclist Association lament the passing of Dave Mungenast, Sr., after his battle with cancer.

Dave was a member of the Museum’s Board of Directors, a supporter of the AMA, and a friend to all motorcyclists. His exploits over nearly 72 years are countless and, by any definition, the stuff of legend — mechanic, champion, stunt rider, motorcycle and car dealer, race promoter and a 2000 inductee into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame.

"I'm sad to see that my friend, motorcycling's friend, Dave Mungenast passed on," said AMA Board of Directors Chairman Dal Smilie. "Dave was a remarkable guy whose business acumen, knowledge of the sport and positive outlook were always treasured while he served on the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum Board.

"Dave did about everything you can do on an off-road motorcycle, including stunting in the movies. Several charities are going to miss Dave, all of his friends are going to miss him, and we are all richer because he invested so much of his life in our sport."

Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum curator and former AMA President Ed Youngblood has also written a heartfelt tribute to Dave at his Motohistory website, www.motohistory.net.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, September 25, at the Old Cathedral Church, 209 Walnut St., in St. Louis. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held at the Royal Orleans, 2801 Telegraph Road, St. Louis.
