Lack of gasoline cancels ISDE opening ceremonies

Nov. 3 – Opening ceremonies for the 78th running of the International Six Days Enduro were cancelled when two tanker trucks carrying fuel for the event failed to arrive on time.

Four hundred and eighty-six riders from 35 countries were scheduled to parade from the Beach Park Hotel in Porto das Dunas to Iracema Beach in Fortaleza, Brazil, on Saturday afternoon in a grand ceremony marking the start of the 78th running of the venerable event.

The tankers, carrying a total of 35,000 liters of gasoline, finally arrived at 3pm Saturday afternoon — too late to save the opening ceremonies, but in time to let competitors get in a little practice on Sunday. Competition began this morning.
