Day 4
Sept. 27, 2002 – Today
was a very tough day for all teams. Rain throughout the week made many tests
very difficult. On the second loop, Enduro Test #2 at the ski hill was shut
down, and another Cross Test was shortened.
The International Jury met last evening to review results and filed protests.
The U.S. World Trophy Team did not come out on top. Greg Gillian was issued
a five minute penalty for "cutting the course." Greg entered a check that
was not marked very well, from the wrong direction. Brian Sperle was excluded
for allegedly refueling with the engine running. We continue to argue Saturday
a.m., and it appears that Brian will be allowed to start with the 500 4-strokes.
Several Team USA riders had problems during the day. Junior Trophy rider
Wally Palmer lost his brakes and was unable to continue. Amanda Mastin,
Lance Bross, Eric Croy all had clutch problems. Cody Mastin ran the oil
out of his motorcycle. World Trophy rider Tim Taber blew a motor. Eric Moberg
broke a collar bone. Tom Huber overheated. Steve Underwood, David Klein,
Andy Gutish, and J.D. Hammock just couldn't match the impossible schedule
and houred out. Ken Tomeo, spent the night (Wednesday) in a local hospital,
with a possible broken hip. X-rays proved that wrong.
Stay tuned...
