Decided on the Mile: Cummings
and Myers named
2002 Dirt-Track Horizon Award winners
July 6 – In the end, it was simply too
close to call. After the busiest week of dirt-track racing in
America, two of the brightest rising stars in the AMA Dirt Track
Grand Championships fought out their final races on the famed
Springfield Mile, and with all the races done, Michigan racers
Nicholas Cummings and Logan Myers came out on top, sharing the
event's highest honor — the 2002 Dirt-Track Horizon Award.
Grand Champions crowned
at AMA Dirt Track Grand Championships
July 6 – After four long days of racing at
the AMA Dirt Track Grand Championship, the best of the best amateur
dirt-trackers in the country were crowned.

Battle for the Horizon Award heats
up
July 5 – It was half-mile day for the
big bikes at the AMA Dirt Track Grand Championships, and after a series
of tight races that saw the front-runners for the AMA Dirt Track Horizon
Award face off three separate times, the points battle between the top
two solidified.
Making history
July 5 – It may have seemed like just
another day at the busiest week in dirt-track, but day three of the
AMA Dirt Track Grand Championships offered something special: a bit
of history.
Tuesday: TT
Throwing in
a few curves
July 3 – You can never predict a TT.
That right turn and the jump transform a regular short-track into a
challenging obstacle course that requires finesse and more than just
a little luck. And that was never more true than at Tuesday night's
TT program at the AMA Dirt Track Grand Championships.
Going fast and turning right
July 3 – Take your basic short track, throw
in a longer front straight, a hairpin turn, a jump and that all-important
right turn, and you've got a TT, and that's what the competitors of
the AMA Dirt Track Grand Championships raced Tuesday, with one rider
— Michael Martin of Lockeford, California — winning two races for the
day and others taking home individual titles.
Monday: Short Track
Big bikes
take to the short track
July 2 – The sun went down, the lights
came on, and the big bikes took to the track Monday night at the AMA
Dirt Track Grand Championships here in this capitol city, and Claton
Riggle, of Chillicothe, Missouri rose to the top of the heap, taking
two amateur championships, while a host of talented riders made the
most of the beautifully prepared short track at the Illinois State Fairgrounds
to take titles of their own.
AMA Dirt Track Grand Championships
